What Is FEEL?

FEEL or Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning first and foremost broadens nonverbal awareness.  Modern communication is almost entirely word based but psychologists have determined that over ninety percent of all communication is nonverbal.  As an animal that is preyed upon in nature, the horse has a highly developed ability to sense changes in the environment and arousal level of the other herd members.  This gives horses an amazing ability to sense and respond to the slightest signal and emotion from humans.

Horses are very social animals.  Watching how they communicate and relate to one another can teach humans a great deal.  Horses help people to understand their nonverbal cues, unconscious behavior patterns, and emotional intent behind their words and actions.  Horses do not lie or have an ego.  Horses simply are who they are, without any need to be right or wrong.  They are only concerned with an individual's actions and not words.

Experiential Learning refers to a type of learning when a person is interacting directly with people, animals, and the environment.  Basically, it's learning by doing.  A here and now experience.  Through the authentic connection that horses require of us, we learn to clearly communicate our intentions.
